Caring for Rotary Blades

Think about all the blades you have in your home: kitchen knives, bathroom razors, your best sewing scissors.  Quilter’s Cut Rotary Blades are start sharp and stay sharp a long time.  Like all those other blades, there are things you can do keep them on the cutting edge.

Fabric requires a super-sharp blade and great precision, and it causes the least amount of wear to your blade.  Paper is the opposite.  It causes lots of wear, and let’s face it, you can cut paper with kindergarten scissors.  I use recycled blades to cut things like paper and cardboard.

Watch out for the RULER’S EDGE AND PINS.  Just like your favorite chef’s knife, if you nick it your blade by cutting into things like metal and acrylic, it won’t cut as well.

INSTALL your blade properly.  Make sure all the handle parts are back in the right spot and turned the right direction, but also make sure the screw is tightened just enough to allow the blade to turn freely without wobbling.  Test the installation by rolling it across the mat without fabric.
